A different flavor than The Visible Policy, here Mr. Franzen
has produced a site with a blend of “...part glossary
and part opinion.” I appreciate the boldness, honesty
and clarity of thought Mr. Franzen applies in his comments. National
Association Of Insurance Commissioners http://www.naic.org/ "The National Association
of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) is the organization of
insurance regulators from the 50 states, the District of
Columbia and the four U.S. territories ... The mission of
the NAIC is to assist state insurance regulators, individually
and collectively, in serving the public interest and achieving
the following fundamental insurance regulatory goals in
a responsive, efficient and cost effective manner, consistent
with the wishes of its members: protect
the public interest; promote competitive markets; facilitate
the fair and equitable treatment of insurance consumers;
promote the reliability, solvency and financial solidity
of insurance institutions; and support and improve state
regulation of insurance." 12-23-03
This is a good website for both consumers and members of
the industry. The former can access consumer protection
articles while the latter can keep abreast of changes in
the industry.

"Several
years ago I purchased a "Whole Life" insurance
policy from New York Life. I had no idea how it worked.
I knew my premiums would stay the same, and I could keep
coverage for my entire life. And I knew the policy was building
up cash value, which I could use for a loan or get back
should I decide to cancel ("lapse") the policy.
But what the heck is a participating Whole Life policy?
What exactly are the premiums "buying" me? How
much does the policy earn? And, of course, "Am I getting
screwed"? You might be interested in what I have figured
out."

Mr. Franzen has produced an outstanding site. The quality
of his work surpasses the average insurance agent by far,
but Mr. Franzen is not an agent. A citizen who simply took
a keen interest in the product he invested in, he has done
an amazing job of analyzing a Whole Life Insurance Policy.
There's nothing else on the web like it!
